OUR STORY

cph
cph stands for Copenhagen, for hygge (Danish for cozy and comfortable), for the good life.

cph and the Danish fashion industry
cph started more than 20 years ago showcasing the collections of the young Danish fashion designers of the turn of the millennium (the reason for the name cph). Hardly anyone in Switzerland knew them at the time but they had created a name for themselves internationally. Success is always an insidious thing. Within a decade these stars reached their zenith and disappeared from the scene and the Danish fashion industry was increasingly caught up in the maelstrom of fast fashion and cheap production in China and elsewhere in the Far East. The vast majority of Danish labels still remain chained to this vile system. There are as always wonderful exceptions like Henrik Vibskov who will soon be showing in cph.

KLÆR – by Mette Jensen – Danish design – MADE IN SWITZERLAND
With things as they were Mette decided to return to her vocation as a fashion designer (she is a graduate of the renovated Kolding Designskole in Denmark) and create her own Danish Design collections. KLÆR (Danish for ‘dressed’) aims to knit fabulous, long-lasting design and quality with sustainability. These are the globally known and loved Danish Design values. KLÆR is the essence of the quintessential Scandinavian style and is inspired by the iconic trends of the last decades – an effortless wardrobe for all the different roles of the modern woman.

KLÆR and sustainability
Almost the entire KLÆR value chain is located in Switzerland. Design office in Bern, pattern making in Zurich Oberland and KLÆR is sewn almost exclusively (KLÆR knitwear is made in Italy by a small family business – father, mother, 2 sons) in Switzerland. This is our contribution to the preservation of jobs and know-how in Switzerland and there is this wonderful side effect: the elimination of long transport routes which contribute significantly to global warming.
When we started KLÆR, we had to ask ourselves where and how to source materials. We came across the alarming fact that 20% of the world’s water pollution is caused by the fashion industry. How then be a part of the solution, not part of the problem? We came to discover the left-over or entirely unused fabrics of luxury houses. We buy these fantastic materials, which means we literally rescue and breathe beautiful new life into them. This is a perfect win-win.

100% sustainability?
There is really no such thing as 100% sustainability, but we have come unexpectedly far on our journey in reaching that goal. The limited KLÆR editions are now enthusiastically received, especially because of the incomparably good price-performance ratio for a sustainable product and a product MADE IN SWITZERLAND.

cph and Corona
The pandemic is still shaping our daily lives. The world we live in is unpredictable. It is no one’s fault. We are grateful that you have not forgotten us, grateful for all those who make cph and KLÆR still possible. A miracle indeed!
We looking forward to welcoming you in cph-Berne or cph-Zurich.
Sincerely
Mette, Johnson and the cph-team
PS: Guest labels in cph-Bern and cph-Zurich. KLÆR in cph-Berne and cph-Zurich and Webstore (currently being reorganized)
